Apply for a Grant

Applications are open for the 2020-2021 Public School Proud Grants. During the 2019-2020 school year, the Education Foundation awarded $100,000 to 49 educators to enhance the classroom experience.  If you are interested in applying for a grant, please email, and she will provide you with the grant application. Unlike previous years, we will not be using a Google Doc for the grant applications.

Staff members from all grade levels who are employed by the Sioux Falls School District are eligible to apply for a grant from the Education Foundation. The selection committee will consider enhancements to existing curriculum, proposals that teach concepts in an innovative and creative way, projects that align with curriculum and teaching standards, activities that are implemented school-wide or in one classroom, and activities that support the mission of the Sioux Falls School District. We want teachers to bring us their next big idea.

Grant proposals may include projects that require the purchase of equipment or software. If installation or maintenance costs will be incurred, please receive approval from your building principal before submitting the proposal. Any orders placed on Amazon should link to the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation on Amazon Smile as the nonprofit to benefit from purchase.

Applications requesting salary, employee travel, or conference costs will not be considered.

Applications may be for any amount up to $10,000. Proposals requesting more than $3,000 may be asked to give a formal presentation to the panel. This is a competitive grant process. A committee of five members evaluate the proposals and make recommendations to the Education Foundation Board of Directors.

Winners are required to share what they learned from their project in a professional setting such as an in-service or staff meeting.  An evaluation report must also be submitted to the Education Foundation.

Once the proposals have been approved, representatives of the Education Foundation and the sponsors will award the checks to the recipients throughout March–May 2021.  Checks will be presented to the award recipients but made payable to the award recipient’s school for deposit in the school’s Trust and Agency accounts.  Award recipients may access the grant funds through the T&A accounts. If the program is not completed for which a grant was awarded, the funds need to be returned to the Education Foundation.

Proposals are due February 4, 2021 by 5 p.m. All applications must be emailed to  If you have questions during the grant process, please contact Allison Struck, executive director of the Education Foundation, by calling 605.367.4484.
