Teachers from the Sioux Falls area are invited to participate in the first-ever Sioux Falls Area Teacher Swap Meet, which will be held Aug. 11 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
The Swap Meet is designed to enable K-12 teachers to buy, sell or trade their personal teaching supplies. It will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the second Thursday in August. The free event is sponsored by Avera Health and hosted by the Education Foundation.
Early interest in the event has been strong, says event coordinator Amy Scott-Stoltz, former chair of the Education Foundation Board. ”I’m excited about this,” she says. “It’s really coming together well.” Scott-Stoltz expects the Swap Meet to become an annual event and evolve into more than a forum for teachers to buy and sell classroom materials. “They can exchange knowledge, too.”
Anyone is welcome to attend and shop. Food concessions will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be no outside vendors selling merchandise, but adding vendors is an option that might be considered for future meets.
Approximately 95 selling tables will be available, Scott-Stoltz says. Teachers from schools in the Sioux Falls area may reserve a table by emailing a request to TeacherSwapMeet@gmail.com. Applicants should include their name, school and grade level, and submit their request before July 22. No table fee or entry fee will be charged.
Micki Lundin, director of community partnerships for Avera Health, said Avera is a proud sponsor of the Education Foundation. “Our local teachers are training the minds of our future workforce, and we’re excited to offer this exciting opportunity to share their resources as well as their knowledge,” Lundin said.
