Deadline for Innovation in Education Grants Approaching

Teachers in the Sioux Falls School District have fewer than three weeks to submit an application for the Innovation in Education Grants. Applications can be found by clicking on this link: http://bit.ly/2LixUxp

Since 2005, the Education Foundation has awarded more than $358,000 to teachers who are using creative and innovative teaching strategies. During the 2017-2018 school year, 25 teachers received grants, totaling more than $57,000.

Teachers have used funds to purchase drones, coding robots, simulation mannequins, virtual reality goggles, a 3D printer, STEM devices, and Osmo kits. We have funded flexible seating options, like scoop chairs, lap desks, bean bags, discs, and ball chairs. Winners have also used funds to purchase percussion mallet instruments, a Native American-focused newspaper, Breakout EDU kits, and light tables. Another grant offsets the cost for students taking the GED. We only fund materials that are not covered by tax dollars.

The grants process is competitive, and any teacher in the Sioux Falls School District is eligible to apply. Teachers can request up to $10,000 in funding. If the request is more than $3,000, the teacher might be asked to present to the grant review committee.

Proposals are due February 22, 2019 and must be completed on Google Forms by 12 p.m. (noon). If you have questions during the grant process, please contact Allison Struck, executive director of the Education Foundation, by calling 605.367.4484.
