Scheels in Sioux Falls donated $2,500 to the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation as part of its “12 Days of Giving” campaign. Eleven local nonprofits received $2,500, and Scheels awarded $10,000 to the grand prize winner.
Scheels received more than 5,000 entries, and they narrowed the pool down to the top 12. The $2,500 donation to the Education Foundation will be used to support Public School Proud Grants for teachers in the Sioux Falls School District. Any teacher can apply for up to $10,000 each year to purchase materials that will give students hands-on, immersive opportunities. In 2021, the Education Foundation awarded about $110,000 to 67 educators. Teachers at the elementary, middle, and high school level received awards.
“Scheels has been a longtime partner of the Sioux Falls School District, and we are thrilled to receive this donation before the holidays,” said Allison Struck, executive director. “We always receive more Public School Proud Grant requests than we are able to fund, so this donation helps us close the gap and finance another idea.”
This is the second year that Scheels has sponsored the promotion.
